A new scheme which enables businesses to receive advice on cutting waste is being trialled in Bristol. Users of the Envirowise scheme can text "waste" to 88058 and receive a direct link on their mobile phone to a specially designed calculator - accessible via WAP technology or a series of text messages. Users are then prompted to enter straightforward details about their typical office resource use. Their phone will subsequently display information on how savings can be made in areas such as water and paper use, by putting in place low or no-cost environmental improvements. Details of other sources of advice are also given, including the Envirowise helpline. Paul Gilbert, Envirowise regional manager for the South West, said: "The purpose of this pilot is to use of the latest media channels and get the message out about the benefits of resource efficiency. This is one of the most convenient ways yet for Bristol's offices to see how to make cost savings." The trial in Bristol will be followed by others in Exeter and Nottingham.
